As February approaches, Indianapolis gears up to celebrate Black History Month with a variety of events, exhibits, and educational programs that honor the rich contributions of African Americans to the fabric of our society. One of the best resources for all Indianapolis-area events is Visit Indy. In addition, here’s a roundup of some notable happenings–both in-person and virtual–around our city:

1. Indiana Historical Society’s Black History Month Programs
Exhibits: With a variety of offerings in the month of February, from the documentary “Attucks: A School That Opened a City” to “Power and Impact of the Black Press” to “Going Pro–the Origins of Basketball in Indiana” is something for everyone.

2. Madame Walker Legacy Center
Virtual Tour: Madam C.J. Walker Legacy Tour: Step into the world of Madam C.J. Walker, pioneering entrepreneur and philanthropist and learn about her groundbreaking achievements and lasting impact on African American culture and business.

3. Marion County-Indianapolis Public Library
Virtual Event Series: Black History Month at IndyPL: Join the Indianapolis Public Library for a series of virtual events and discussions celebrating Black history and culture. With events like History On Stage: A Presentation from Madam CJ Walker & Ida B. Wells there are many opportunities in the month of February. Just scroll through the calendar and find the events that best suit your location.

4. Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art:
Lecture: Leon Jett Memorial Lecture about the iconic Madam C.J. Walker: Join storyteller Portia Sholar Jackson, “Momma Portia,” on February 3 for an engaging lecture at the Eiteljorg about iconic African American entrepreneur and businesswoman Madam C.J. Walker.

5. Crispus Attucks Museum
VirtualExhibit: Crispus Attucks Museum Collection: Journey through the history of Crispus Attucks High School, Indiana’s first all-Black high school, and learn about its enduring legacy of academic excellence, community leadership, and social activism through archival documents.

6. Conner Prairie
Events: Check out special events and programs happening at Conner Prairie throughout Black History Month, including commemorative ceremonies, volunteer opportunities, and educational workshops.As we commemorate Black History Month in Indianapolis, let’s take this opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and envision a future founded on justice.
