The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has officially reopened its doors in 2025 after a major, highly anticipated renovation, offering fans a completely reimagined experience that honors the deep traditions of racing while embracing a bold future. Located within the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway grounds, the museum has long been a pilgrimage site for motorsports fans, and the new updates make it even more impressive.
History
First opened in 1956, the museum was originally created to preserve the rich history of the Indianapolis 500 and American motorsports. Over the decades, it grew into a world-renowned institution, home to some of racing’s most legendary cars, artifacts, and memorabilia. However, as the sport evolved and fans’ expectations grew, the need for a modernized, more immersive space became clear.
New Exhibits
The 2025 reopening marks the most extensive transformation in the museum’s history. The revamped space features a complete redesign of exhibits. Visitors are now immersed in interactive storytelling experiences that bring the heroes, innovations, and dramatic moments of racing history to life. New multimedia presentations, cutting-edge simulations, and hands-on exhibits allow fans to feel the thrill of the Speedway like never before.
One of the standout features is the “Victory Lane Experience,” where visitors can relive the exhilaration of winning the Indianapolis 500, complete with virtual celebrations and historic footage. Another highlight is the expanded gallery of winning cars, now presented alongside personal stories, engineering breakthroughs, and behind-the-scenes insights into what it takes to conquer the Brickyard.
The museum also now features special rotating exhibits, ensuring that even repeat visitors will find something new to discover. Early 2025 exhibits include tributes to legends like A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, and modern stars such as Helio Castroneves, along with a deep dive into the evolution of racing technology.
Expanded Spaces
Importantly, the Speedway Museum’s renovation also honors the global impact of racing culture. While the Indianapolis 500 remains the centerpiece, exhibits now also highlight the Speedway’s role in hosting Formula 1, NASCAR, and MotoGP events, further cementing its reputation as the “Racing Capital of the World.”
The modernization extends beyond exhibits. The museum now boasts improved accessibility features, a larger event space, and a sleek new gift shop stocked with exclusive memorabilia. A new café overlooking the track allows visitors to soak in the atmosphere of the Speedway while enjoying a meal or coffee.
Tickets
Ticket prices range from $18-$25 depending on age. Children under five-years old are free when accompanied by an adult. The calendar for tickets opens 60 days in advance. Memberships to the museum are also available.
