Why Living in Meridian Hills Is Awesome

You can find Meridian Hills just a few miles north of downtown Indy. This affluent residential development project started way back in the 1920s but didn’t incorporate until 1937 — and it has been thriving ever since. The local government strictly enforces residential and development standards, making certain that homes, buildings and streets are all well-maintained and pleasant whether you’re there for work or play.

But that’s just the start of why Meridian Hills is considered one of the best residential developments in the area.

Meridian Hills Country Club

The focal point of the community is, naturally, the Meridian Hills Country Club. Its 18-hole course is open seven days of the week, 10 months out of the year. Designed by architect Bill Diddel and renovated by other celebrated course designers, the layout of the putting greens was designed to work with the natural surrounding landscape to provide a course that’s both beautiful and challenging for everyone.

But that’s not all you can find at the Club. Members and their families also have access to the club’s Z-shaped pool. The pool boasts six swimming lanes for laps, a water slide, a diving area and a kiddie pool, plus all of the amenities you might want in a pool house (including a snack bar). Members also can take advantage of the 24-hour access to the Club’s fitness center and appointment-only personal training services to stay in shape — or maybe just take advantage of the fine dining and highly-cultivated wine list that’s available.

The homes surrounding the golf course provide an array of designs from 1950s Mid-Century Modern to renovated homes of all sizes to new construction. Nearby you will find condominiums, small ranches and large two story homes. Most of the homes are embraced with mature trees and privacy. Enjoy walking on the tree lined streets and the peaceful sound of nature surrounding you.

Nearby Nature Parks

Want to escape the city for a moment and step back in time to see what unspoiled nature was once like? The nature parks near Meridian Hills can make it possible. Just past College Avenue and 73rd Street, for example, you can find 102 acres to explore at Marott Park Woods Nature Preserve — 84 of which are part of a second-growth hardwood forest. Part of reclaimed farmland, the Preserve is an important part of conservation and research efforts in the area.

Looking for something that bridges the natural world but still has plenty of things to occupy the kids? Consider heading over to Holliday Park with your family. There, you can hike the trails along the banks of the White River, visit massive limestone sculptures known as The Ruins or let the kids go wild on one of the outstanding playgrounds available for public use. Nearby Monon Trail, which was once home to the railroad connecting Indianapolis with Chicago, also provides 27.1 miles of space through the heart of Indiana where you can walk, hike, ride a skateboard and more.

Fine Dining and More

Meridian Hills, Indiana, may offer residents the sense that they’re out of the city — but that doesn’t mean they have to give up great food. You can find steak and seafood (plus gluten-free options) at Prime 47, authentic Mexican dishes at Cholita Taqueria and Midwestern American fare at Offshore Broad Ripple (along with beer from the local Sun King brewery) — plus dozens of more tasty choices from local establishments.

You also won’t want for places to shop. There are hundreds of small shops in the Meridian Hills area, but you should also check out The Fashion Mall at Keystone. Host to more than 120 stores, you can probably find just about anything you want — including high-end gifts from Tiffany & Co., or Nordstrom.
